ULagos participates in important summit between Chile and China to boost agriculture’s role

The Agronomy academic and researcher, Julio Kalazich, in representation of ULagos University and Science and Technology Agriculture area of the country, exposed at the X Chile-China Science and Technology Meeting in front of C&T Ministers and other representatives from both countries.

With the Chile-China respective delegations by China’s Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Zhigang, and Chile’s Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Flavio Salazar, was held in a virtual format the X Meeting of the Joint Commission for Cooperation in Science and Technology between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government’s Chile Republic.

For this meeting the ULagos University played an important role due to 6 cooperation topics were analyzed in which both nations work, one of them being “Scientific-technological cooperation in agriculture”, which was represented at this meeting by the ULagos Academic and Researcher, Julio Kalazich, in this meeting he had to expose to the ministers and authorities of Chile and China.

“It was an especially important opportunity for the ULagos University to represent Chile in the Scientist-Technology Agronomy Area, which undoubtedly puts our university in the orbit cooperation in this area so relevant for both countries.  We hope that soon the University will sign a specific collaboration agreement with our Chinese counterpart, for which there is already a pre-agreement”, said the academic.

The thematic areas that they exposed to the progress in cooperative work and carried out a broad and detailed exchange of opinions were: (1) Scientist-Technology Agronomy cooperation, (2) Climate change and clean energy cooperation, (3) Scientist Astronomy cooperation, (4) Research and development of COVID-17 vaccines cooperation, (5) Young scientist exchange, (6) Scientific research institutions cooperation.

CONSENSUNSES

As stated, both sides agreed that the Scientist-Technology innovation is fundamental for long-term sustainable socio-economic development country, highlighting the international cooperantion in science and technology progress, they stated its common intertest in employ innovative mechanisms and broaden the modalities of scientific and technological collaboration.

In the science and agricultural technology development, expressed their willingness to further strengthen scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation in the agricultural field, and discussed the possibility of establishing a China-Chile Sustainable Food Innovation Center within the framework of the China-LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) Sustainable Food Innovation Center, to promote sustainable development and green transformation of agriculture, helping to solve food security problems.

They also expressed the importance of addressing climate change and clean energy, attaching great importance to leading the realization of achieving global carbon neutrality through scientific and technological innovation. Both parties expressed that they will explore the establishment of a “carbon neutrality” science and technology innovation policy exchange platform, strengthen cooperation in the field of clean energy and enhance the capacity and resilience of the two countries to address climate change.

In this meeting were ratified the priority to development cooperation between Scientisc-Technology Agronomy areas.
