With a warm welcome, students from Spain, Peru, and Chile arrived to attend an academic semester.

The newcomers’ students were enthusiastic, happy, and expectant to be in Osorno and Puerto Montt to study for a semester at Los Lagos University, after having chosen from a range of possibilities where to do it.

They decided that it would be in the South of Chile by the experience of other classmates, by its beauty, and by ULagos prestige, the young people said.

“I am from Sevilla, Spain, I arrived on April 8, and I am studying Communication Pedagogy, I will stay for one semester, but I wish I could stay more. I am super happy because not only have my classmates integrated me into the university from the beginning, but we also had book week, which was very good for me because I had just arrived and allowed me to meet my classmates through the extracurricular activities besides the main subjects, I was able to meet them in a better way, but I’m very happy, especially for the closeness and affection that I find from the people here”, Lourdes Flores explained.

And it was precisely a following dream from her childhood that she arrived at ULagos. “I decided to come to Osorno because since I was little, I have had the dream of coming to Latin-American, it was one of my worries and I wanted to take a sabbatical year to visit here, then I had the chance to continue with my philology studies and I thought it was a fantastic opportunity to come here and touring Latin-American. I was lucky enough for having a classmate who came to Osorno two years ago and thank to the university I could contact her and ask for the information about the landlord who rented to her and there is where I stayed”, she said.

On dependencies of the Osorno University campus, Chuyaca sector, the national and foreign students were welcomed by the Director of International Relations, Rodrigo Márquez, and the Chief of Staff of the Academic Vice Rector’s Office, Ángela Parga, in addition to the participation of career directors and professionals from the International Relations Office of the University.

Each student introduces themselves, commenting on their experiences in this new city and their relationship with the university.

“We as the Directorate of International Relations and the Rectory know it is transcendent this generation of national and foreign students arriving at ULagos, because it will not only it will remain in the statistical record, but also in the historical record because they are the first generation of students to move after the pandemic. The role that they play within our careers, but also in the experience that they then transmit to their places of origin, both in Spain, Peru, and nationally, will mean that we can increase the number of students who dare to live the ULagos experience in the south of Chile”, Rodrigo Marquez, Director of International Relations explained.

From Chile students also want to come to Los Lagos University to live the experience of studying for a semester, such as David Perez, who comes from the Universidad de Playa Ancha, in Valparaiso, and is studying Speech Therapy.

“I arrived in March to look for where I can stay, to orient myself and visit the practice centers.  I am in my fifth year; I came here to do my internship. I am currently doing my children’s rotation at a comprehensive care center in Sao Paulo, it has been intense but very cool, wonderful experience,” he explained.

In this semester there are 7 students who have arrived to enter different undergraduate careers in Osorno and Puerto Montt. They come from Spain, Peru, and Chile. As in previous years, the number of students is expected to increase as the pandemic is left behind.
