In this the University has been increasing its position in this last time, thanks to the research accreditation we are more visible every day, we are happy and we will continue with this type of actions because this allows us to identify variables where we can improve deeply”. Oscar Garrido, Rector of the ULagos said.
Los Lagos University proposed its Institutional Strategic Plan design for 2030 year considering national and international measurements, as strategic indicators that would allow it to have a reference of its positioning. For this reason, it focused on Times Higher Education and Latin American QS ranking.
The last one measures: academic reputation, employer reputation, professors and students percentage, staff with doctoral degrees, international research network, citations per article, articles per faculty and web impact. One of these rankings is Webometric that measures: web content impact, most researchers cited, and most articles cited. Between 1717 universities at Latin American level, ULagos ranks 97th place, while among Chilean universities it ranks 15th out of a total of 56 institutions.
Another recognized ranking is SCmago that clasify academic institutions related to investigation area. Chilean universities are ranked at 20th and 94th Latin American level. SCImago measures three main factors: research, society and innovation.
“The University it is recognized as part of a national and international universitary system and the rankings must be considerated as a reference, they are parameters which we must to take, analyze them and see what are useful for us to be able to continue improving. We do not work for the rankings but it does give us material to make a lesson about university purpose and its time evolution”, Christopher Thackeray, Director of ULagos Strategic Studies said.
