Teachers and students from Universidad de La Salle, Colombia came to Universidad de Los Lagos in Osorno to share and learn about experiences in education

Understanding how technologies are being implemented in education and their real contribution to the social and political training of young people, what are they for? How can they be used? And if using it allows young people to develop in aspects such as empathy, solidarity, collaboration, critical thinking or whether technology is an instrumentalized thing that does not replace anything, they are part of the questions and answers that a team of ULagos researchers and Colombian educational institutions work.

This is explained by the Doctor in Teaching History, Geography and Social Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Isabel Jiménez who arrived at the University of Los Lagos accompanied by a team of professionals and graduate students to know in situ experiences that the ULagos has been developing, led by the Dr. Roberto Canales and that relates precisely to technology and its impact on educational communities and teacher training.

Dr. Jiménez arrived to Osorno representing Universidad Pascual Bravo, a public university in Medellín with more of 80 years of trajectory, representing the ICON group of research of the same university, as well as, as well as, in her capacity as professor of the doctorate in Education and Society at the Universidad de La Salle in Bogotá. “Together with the University of Los Lagos we are working on observing how the training of technologies is going in the university professor. But also, in parallel we are carrying out a work with the Universidad de La Salle and the ULagos, where we participate to doctoral students in Bogota, some came to this visit and with others we have been connecting to develop together with the ULagos topics that have to do with science, cyberculture and techno society,” she explains.

Also attending with her is Mirta Yolima, professor at the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Universdad de La Salle, Bogotá.

She represents the PhD program in Education and Society where she coordinates a research subsystem called Language, Communication and Subjectivities. “We are strengthening the research subsystems of our program and carrying a proposal for an alliance with mixed communities of research, innovation, that we could establish with other universities such as ULagos. This pedagogical mission aims to be able to share with the doctoral students, we come with 2 students and also connect other students of the program to strengthen the alliances. We want to extend an existant agreement between ULagos and Universidad de La Salle”, she indicates.

The work that the institutions seek to carry out aims fundamentally to better articulate the academy and society.

“We want to be able to think beyond the research groups that have been the tradition of Latin American universities. The invitation is to think about mixed communities of research, training and innovation that are scenarios where not only groups, but communities, networks, programs, researchers of different levels of training, undergraduate and postgraduate professors, social and community leaders, indigenous communities, peasants, among others, participate so that there is an articulation between academia and society and that horizontal dialogues are established around emerging problems” , the academic claims .

PROYECTS

“We have a relationship of years with the Universidad de La Salle and with other institutions in Colombia, whose academic research team has decided to make an academic mission to the ULagos to link to the projects that we have in force in Chile and abroad. This brings together international projects, a Network of Appropriation and Technology Researchers (RIAT) and a CLACSO working group on education and social sciences at the Ibero-American level. This visit evaluates in the context of its doctorate how the University of Los Lagos is interesting to know in the field what they do”, explains the academic of the Universidad de Los Lagos, Dr. Roberto Canales.

The program of the visit that lasted for a week included meetings with the Directorate of International Relations, with the Center for Integral Training (CFI), The Ceder Research Center, with academics and with the Provincial Directorate of Education.
