With the inspiring light that sought to make people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) visible, and contribute to raise awareness and avoid the invisibility or ridicule of those who suffer from the disorder, the short film “OCD or wood”, led by the academic of the Department of Social Sciences of the ULagos, Hernán Delgado, won one of the two special mentions among 52 works presented internationally, at the Film Festival held in Monachil (Granada, Spain).
In this context, the play that represented Chile, “has a message that consists of the visibility and acceptance of people with OCD, which can sometimes be disabling, but, for the same reason, we try to show that there is help and psychological and medical collaboration,” said Hernán Delgado (script, direction and camera) in the play.
Regarding the technical characteristics of the short film; “Duration of 4 minutes and 12 seconds (4:12 min. ); filmed with a non-professional camera over several days and in closed and open scenarios; it is in color and only has a two-sentence monologue at the end (subtitled, thinking of people with hearing loss), so it can be viewed by almost anyone in the world; the performances are based on the relationship of a father with OCD and his daughter in everyday life situations, leaving raised the help that can be received, as well as the possibility that OCD continues if not given attention or solution, ” he said.
In addition to the scriptwriter, the short film, which had the characteristic of being an amateur creation, counted with the participation of Paola González, professor in History and Geography and Master in Intervention with Youth and Adolescents (post-production and camera); and Trinidad Delgado, student (acting).
Special Mention
When Hernán Delgado was asked about the relevance of the special mention, he said that “it meant a lot to the team, because the production was not easy due to the time that had to be dedicated to filming and post-production (music, vignettes, subtitles, credits, aspect ratio, etc.), even though it is an amateur short film. Nevertheless, it has an added gratification, thinking that we achieved one of the two special mentions out of 52 works submitted and that we were representing Chile, since works were sent from Argentina and Spain. In addition to the above, the opportunity to be one of the 8 short films exhibited directly at the Film Festival held in Monachil (Granada, Spain) allowed us to make this disorder visible and share the message of the work,” he emphasized.
Inclusion
For the academic from the ULagos Department of Social Sciences, “it is very important to keep in mind that within the ULagos mission is the contribution to inclusion, creation, the arts and the link with the environment; but we must also remember that the formation of the university’s student body is directly related to comprehensive training, which we were able to transfer through this very modest contribution, but no less remarkable for that,” he argued.
The creator indicated that “we are grateful to the OCD Granada Association and especially to its President, Aurelio López, who has led a real crusade to help dozens of people from different countries, who have come to Granada to be treated by the Association’s specialists, because his work has allowed not only moral support, but also scientific interest in improving the quality of life of people who suffer from this obsessive-compulsive disorder”, concluded Hernán Delgado.
