Undoubtedly, the Meeting Room of the Vice Rector’s Office (VAC) of Los Lagos University has witnessed countless meetings and relevant activities, but the meeting ceremony for the ULagos students awarded a scholarship by Santander Universities was filled with emotion due to the uncertain wait in the pandemic and the expectations of the five students who will do an internship abroad, next semester 2022.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of International Relations, Rodrigo Márquez, the Academic Vice-Rector, Marcia Adams, professors of the beneficiary students, the team of professionals of the International Relations Department, and the scholarship students.
In this context, Rodrigo Márquez, Director of International Relations at ULagos, commented that “The importance of this activity is to give formal recognition to the students who were awarded the Santander Scholarship, who are students who obtained their scholarships in 2021, and who have had to postpone them, and in this ceremony, in which we have had the presence of the Academic Vice Chancellor, Marcia Adams, and the professional technical teams, are just to start the cycle of processes that will allow our students to go to different parts of the world from the second semester of 2022″, he said.
Likewise, Marcia Adams, Academic Vice Chancellor, explains that “We are very proud as a university to be able to offer our students the possibility of having this opportunity for life growth because it is something integral. It is not only to go to study but also to have new experiences that will obviously bring credits in their professional and life formation”, she said.
Scholarship holder
Javiera Fariña, a Nutrition and Diabetic fourth-year student, apply to go to Spain to study: “Actually, it is hard to find words for all the gratefulness, there is a lot of personal effort, from my parents and family, also a lot of enthusiasm for the experience” she highlighted.
About her projections of going to study abroad, the student indicated “First of all, I want to develop myself into my career, to enrich myself from the culture, to learn different things, to know different places and I hope that I can implement it tomorrow as a professional” she said.
Brayan Sánchez, a Psychology fifth-year student, also apply to study in Spain. Regarding the scholarship, he said “The truth is it is meaningful to me, I feel it is like a regard and an appreciation for all the effort that I have put throughout this career. I always worked hard to have good qualifications for this scholarship. So, when I won it, I felt more than relieved, and I feel that it is a reward for all the effort I have made over the years” he highlighted.
Meanwhile, Sandra Hernández, a Social Work student from The University of Malága, Spain came here to continue with her studies at ULagos, she arrived this year and ends her stay in July “It was an incredible opportunity that Los Lagos University offer me, I did not I was going to live this experience, and, in the end, I got it. Since I was little, I have always been interested in Latin America, and being able to stay here and live for a while, getting to know its people and culture, is very exciting for me”, she said.
The scholarship students are Javiera Rojas, Commercial Engineering, who is already in Spain; Brayan Sánchez, Psychology; Javiera Fariña, Nutrition and Dietetics; Camilo Toledo, English Pedagogy; Diego Canquil, Computer Engineering; Maylen Márquez, Architecture.
