The academic year

The academic year at Universidad de Los Lagos is divided into two semesters.
Students can begin their studies either in the winter term (March to July) or summer term (August to December).

IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES

It is very important for you to check Chilean regulations, because they establish the criteria for the entry, residence, exit, re-entry, expulsion and control of foreigners.

At the moment you receive your official Acceptance Letter from the International Relations Office, you must complete the following immigration procedure:

APPLICATION OF AN IDENTITY CARD FOR FOREIGNERS

You must apply for your identity card at the civil registration and identification offices, handing out the following documents:

Valid passport, with electronic stamping of the temporary residence permission.
Photocopy of the pages of the passport showing: the identification of the holder, the validity of the passport and the temporary residence permission with the date of entry into the country.

International Health Insurance

Antes de viajar a Chile, las personas extranjeras que ingresen por primera vez al país, ya sea estudiantes, investigadores/as o académicos/as, deben obligatoriamente tener contratado un seguro de salud desde el inicio de su permanencia en la Universidad de Los Lagos.

Deberán contratar desde su país de origen un seguro de salud que otorgue cobertura para atención médica internacional en Chile.

Debe contar con la siguiente cobertura:

asistencia médica de urgencia
atención hospitalaria
repatriación por motivos médicos o defunción.

En el caso de las personas que llegan a residir por primera vez por un período prolongado como los estudiantes de Programas de Postgrado (estadías de dos a 4 años), se recomienda la contratación de un seguro por 90 días, mientras realizan su afiliación al sistema de salud local.

El seguro a contratar debe incluir los siguientes requisitos:

La póliza debe incluir nombre completo, tal y como aparece en el pasaporte.
Fechas de cobertura: Tener una vigencia que cubra todo el período de estadía en el país.
Incluir los servicios de repatriación sanitaria y funeraria.
Es importante conocer el número de póliza, la información sobre los centros médicos y hospitales donde el seguro es válido y aceptado, además de la información de contacto de emergencias de la compañía de seguros, en caso de algún incidente
