Centers

The Centro I-Mar (Center for research and development of coastal and environmental resources) was established in 2002 by the Universidad de Los Lagos to study this environment, its ecosystems, the anthropogenic impacts, and to help develop a sustainable management of marine resources.

The Centro I-Mar also hosts the university’s doctoral and master programs in Management and Conservation of Natural Resources. There are currently 17 researchers working at the Centro I-Mar on a variety of topics including: the ecology and cultivation of macroalgae, the ecology and dynamics of harmful algae, the population genetics of marine organisms, the ecology and ecophysiology of crustaceans and mollusks, microbiology, biotechnology, fish physiology and ecology, physical and biological oceanographic processes, and meiofaunal ecology.

CEDER (Center for regional development studies and policies) is an interdisciplinary academic unit whose fundamental purpose is to contribute to the observation, analysis and dissemination of topic related to territorial and sustainable development, with special emphasis in the Chile‘s macro south region, at local and regional levels.

Furthermore, CEDER shares the outcomes of its research through seminars, publications, developing opportunities for exchanging ideas and bringing together both public and private actors, producing bibliography, databases and active international alliances for advancing social research in Chile.
